A note to myself today...
To find the balance between listening to my own inner compass and the needs/wants/requests/suggestions of other people.
To remain open and curious when criticism comes, but to trust the intentions of my heart.
To honour the gifts and knowledge I've accrued from so many years of deep inquiry and practice, while returning to beginner's mind again and again. Because in the not-knowing, infinite possibilities arise.
To remember the hundreds of messages, emails, and handwritten letters I've received from people expressing heartfelt gratitude for the ways I've impacted their lives, while remaining humble and equanimous.
It's too easy to get caught up in trying to be all things to all people. Please everyone, offend no-one. Not only is this not a desirable state of affairs, it's also impossible. My first teacher used to liken this to being as a young sapling tree, blown around wildly by the winds of opinion.
My challenge and intention is to stay firmly rooted, trust in my goodness, hold self-doubt with tenderness whilst inquiring into its realness, express my own unique soul-magic and allow people to have their experience of me. Whatever that experience may be.
Because ultimately, it's all made up, and none of my business anyway.
